Protecting Your Assets
It’s unfortunate that the term “estate” brings about images of great wealth, privilege, and expansive manor houses when it should simply connote our accumulated possessions and assets which we leave behind from a life well lived. Many people believe that because they do not have great wealth they need not plan for the distribution of their “estate.” They believe that a Will will take care of everything, or that they can simply let their heirs work things out. But that can be disastrous, with much of your money being siphoned off through attorney fees and taxes, and causing great and needless friction among your loved ones.
Since your estate is your worldly wealth – substantial or modest – which you have worked hard to build and sustain, it needs to be carefully cared for so it continues on beyond our time – giving and growing and aiding those important individuals and organizations we love.
At Presidential, we strongly recommend having an attorney look at how you currently have your assets arranged in case something happens to you and/or your spouse.
Seemingly little things such as making sure your beneficiaries are properly listed, are current (for example, that an ex-spouse or a spouse’s children from an earlier marriage are not first in line if that is not your intention), are easily fixed now but may be impossible to change later.
Because we are so certain this is important to your family’s financial future, Presidential Brokerage would be pleased to arrange a complimentary meeting with an independent attorney who specializes in helping families work through these matters.Contact your Presidential Wealth Advisor or call 303-694-1600 or your local Presidential branch office.
